Paleo Sweet and Spicy Chinese Chicken Dish

Paleo Sweet and Spicy Chinese Chicken Dish

Golden crispy, paleo sweet and spicy Chinese chicken dish. Moist, and crunchy, smooth, and flavorful. Healthy and junky but oh so mouth-wateringly delicious.

This delicious homemade Chinese chicken dish is gluten, dairy, and grain-free, no MSG, no soy. no nuts.

Paleo Sweet and Spicy Chinese Chicken DishHomemade Chinese Vs Takeout.

It is often hard to find a Chinese restaurant that offers gluten and dairy-free alternatives and when they do, how likely is it that you trust their ingredients are of high quality? When you make your own Chinese you can consume it peacefully, knowing exactly what is in your food because you made it.

Considering Chinese food is hard to find gluten and dairy free, it is likely that the choice left is usually steamed. As a huge fan of junky Chinese food, steamed can get boring fast. I am so incredibly happy to have found this recipe. It tastes Amazing, it is better than eating out and I do not have to worry about having a reaction because I make it myself.

There are no hidden ingredients and no cross-contamination. No soy, no grains, no gluten, no dairy, and it’s nut free. It could totally compare to a take-out version. One might not know the difference, and this dish would absolutely impress any friend or family member who dines with you. I hope you enjoy every single bite as I do!

Tips When Making:

Frying

This sweet and spicy Chinese chicken dish is most delicious when it is fried to crispy perfection. If it is not fried long enough, it will get gummy in the end. You want golden tenders before simmering. However, if you overcook your meat it will get dry and chewy.

White or brown rice, another grain or no grain. The choice is yours. I love the combination of every single ingredient.

The Vegetable Makes The Dish

I personally do not enjoy sliced red pepper. Asparagus was not in the original recipe, but oh my god it is so so good. You can pick any vegetable that sounds good and switch it out. Just cook it separate from the food and add it to the dish at the end to warm it up. Honestly, the vegetables that you love the most are the right vegetables. Choose one or have some fun and choose them all.

Special Thanks and absolute gratitude to GraceAndGranola for the origin of this Amazing Recipe!

Serves: 2 Prep Time: 15 minutes Cooking Time: 15 Minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs. of chicken
  • 1/2 cup of oil
  • ____________
  • FOR THE SAUCE
  • 1/2 cup of raw honey
  • 5 tbsp coconut amino
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • pinch of salt
  • red pepper flakes (use to taste)
  • ____________
  • FOR THE BREADING
  • 3/4 cups arrowroot flour
  • 2 eggs + 1 tsp water
  • ____________
  • OTHER
  • A handful of Asparagus or 1 red bell pepper
  • green onions (Optional)
  • Easy 10-minute rice packets to boil

Instructions

Start boiling your rice water (Medium Pot)  and asparagus water (Large Pot).

You will also need a stir fry pan.

Plus 3 small bowls and a plate for the raw chicken, and 2 serving plates.

  • Bowl 1: Mix together the ingredients for the sauce.
  • Bowl 2: Beat the egg and water.
  • Bowl 3: Pour in the arrowroot flour.
  1. Cut the chicken into preferred chunks. They will shrink.
Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel.
  2. With one hand – dip a few pieces of chicken into the egg mixture. Shake off excess egg.
  3. Then plop those piece into the arrowroot flour bowl.
  4. Do not let your egg hand touch the flour and vice versa. (Otherwise, it gets really messy and fast.)
  5. With the opposite hand – Be sure to coat the chicken pieces well.
  6. Place on a clean plate.
  7. Repeat for all pieces of chicken.
  8. Before cooking be sure to run through dipping each piece into the flour a second time. (Not the egg).
  9. You are ready to go.
  10. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  11. Place the chicken in the now heated skillet, (Flipping halfway through) until it is nicely browned on all sides.
If it is not fully browned then the arrowroot flour will turn gummy at the end. Still edible but less tasty.
  12. Carefully, drain most of the oil into a mug (you can discard this later).
  13. Pour the sauce over the chicken until it’s boiling.
  14. Once it’s boiling, bring the heat to low. Cover with the lid, and simmer for 10 minutes. (Stir occasionally)
For Asparagus, put into boiling water for 7 minutes. Drain then chop.
Set aside till the chicken is done, and add to pan.
For optional bell pepper – slice the bell pepper and add to the chicken for 2 minutes before the end of simmering.
Once all cooking has completed, add the asparagus or bell peppers to chicken.
Serve over a bed of rice. Top with diced green onions and red pepper flakes
Enjoy this mouth-watering, Sweet and Spicy Chinese Chicken Dish!

Notes

Coconut amino (A soy-free and gluten-free alternative to soy sauce) and Arrowroot flour (The starch of a root) can be found at your local health food store, but it is becoming more popular, so you may be able to find it at you're local grocery store in the specialty foods aisle.

About Me

About Me

Hey There, I'm Amanda

As of November of 2016, I became gluten and dairy free. Before my big change, I was a pastry chef for 3 years, a cake decorator 3 years before that, and a passionate baker during my high school years. I ate cake and desserts like anyone else, and ate anything as I pleased. Little did I know, many of my health issues were related to my diet and lifestyle. I knew something was wrong, and that something had to change. The moment my back gave out, my whole life changed as if I was destined for greater things. Now, I believe in my wellness as a whole being, and I plan to share It with you. I have a lot of unusual experiences, and I have a very unique mentality.
