Nurturing Her Roots
Amanda Speaking,
I am very excited to introduce to you, Nurturing Her Roots. For all of my life, my sister has always called me, “Hobbies Girl.” I have an intense interest in learning everything. As “Hobbies Girl,” I love it all. Jumping from hobby to hobby growing up, I was excited to try everything from crafts, sports, cooking and baking, animal science, computers, psychology, and more. Finding a major for high school and college was a mean thing for someone who wants to learn about everything.
Turns out, with creating a website, I once again had to pick only one or two main topics in order to really make a difference.
What the heck!? I am “Hobbies Girl”, I want to share it all. So I tried.
So here it was, a beautiful website that I had created with all of these amazing topics, and I just kept creating. But my God, it was starting to look like I was never going to introduce Nurturing Her Roots to the world. I just could not get it all done, and I was stuck.
I Couldn’t Handle all of these Topics.
Slowly one by one, I started taking down and deleting a lot of the work: subjects, categories, posts, and pages. However, I was still at a loss for what to do next.
In creative writing class, I remember that you are supposed to write about what you know. I had the website squared down to three main categories: recipes, mentality, lifestyle. Yes, I was going to simply write about my life and my perspective of the world. I could fit all of my “Hobbies” into all of these main menus, and I tried. Once again, it was just too much! I threw my hands up at this point. Do I continue with Nurturing Her Roots?
A New Door Opens up to the Magic of Tidying with Marie Kondo.
And believe me, she is magic. I went on a spree for a whole month of tidying and cleaning, decluttering, and getting rid of anything that did not bring me the most joy. I left only the things that I wanted to take into my future. By tidying, organizing, and getting rid of so much clutter, I freed myself.
With less clutter, there was less to do. Most of the stuff I owned, really didn’t own a significant place in my life. I was wasting my time and energy.
It was time to finally narrow things down. I am finally ready to pick a major or two for my life, a major for my website as well. The only things left that I wanted to keep were books and a few DVDs, but everything pretty much was summed up into the category of wellness. These categories include recipes/essential oils/blog topics, meaning “the other topics,” and they all go hand in hand.
These three topics are what I live for. These three topics people know me by. Finally, I understand what it truly means to write what you know: To write your passion and share that with the world. The things you can not stop talking about, the things that drive you.
The Final Result.
So, I give you Nurturing Her Roots, a place to hold my passions and share them with the world from my perspective. My home where I share recipes from vegan to paleo that I truly enjoy, everything I know on essential oils and why I love them, and a full category menu of other blog topics that will help you nurture yourself as it does for me. I want to get you excited about doing things for yourself by yourself, and developing your life and lifestyle that you enjoy and love, as much as I enjoy mine. Let’s share our resources. I am so excited!
Happy Nurturing,
Amanda
